Set Your Bet: Start by adjusting your bet using the coins icon on the screen. You can choose a bet between £0.20 and £100 per spin, depending on your budget. If you’re looking for an extra edge, you can activate the Golden Bet, which increases your stake by 50% and nudges Fisherman and scatter symbols to become fully stacked.
Spin the Reels: Once your bet is set, hit the spin button to start playing. The game features a 5×3 grid with 20 pay lines. Your goal is to land matching symbols on active pay lines from left to right to win.
Special Features: The TopHit Reel, transform symbols into wilds and apply multipliers. Cash Fish symbols has cash values that are collect if the Fisherman symbol land. You also have the bonus round, free spins. Trigger it by landing 3 or more scatter symbols. You can also choose to gamble for additional spins before the bonus round begins if the feature is available in your region.
Winning Combinations & Payouts
Big Game Fishing TopHit have 10 regular symbols. Winning combinations are from left to right, and you need to land a minimum of 3 matching symbols to trigger a payout.
- Low-paying symbols: These are the standard card royals, 10 through Ace (10, J, Q, K, A). 5 of a kind give a payout ranging from 1x to 1.2x your bet.
- High-paying symbols: Cash Fish, floats, reels, tackle boxes, wilds and boats. Payouts ranging from 1.6x to 5x your bet for 5 matching symbols.
Fish symbols also carry cash values that can be collected by fishermen.
Special Symbols
Apart from common symbols, you also have 4 special symbols: Collector, Scatter, Nudge and Wild Symbols.
Wild Symbol
The wild symbol substitutes for all regular symbols. It can appear on any reel and has the same payout value as the high-paying boat symbol, meaning it can also form its own winning combination.
Fisherman Symbol
The Fisherman symbol only appears on the TopHit reel, and when it lands fully, it collects the cash values of all fish symbols on the reels. A nudge can also reveal a fisherman.
Scatter Symbol
Scatter symbols trigger the free spins round when 3 or more of them land anywhere on the reels, including the TopHit reel. You get 8 free spins for 3 scatters.
Nudge Symbol
The nudge symbol can land on the 5th reel only and nudges all partially visible symbols on the top reel to be fully stacked.
Base Game Features
- Cash Fish: These symbols can land randomly during the base game and have collectable cash values, ranging from 0.5x – 200x your bet. To collect these cash values, a fisherman symbol must appear on the TopHit reel.
- TopHit Reel Multipliers: When a high-paying symbol lands on the TopHit reel, all matching symbols on the main reels transform into wilds. If multiple symbols land on the TopHit reel, then they become wilds with win multipliers up to 5x. The more symbols that land, the higher the multiplier.
- Nudge Feature: Occasionally, a nudge symbol lands on the rightmost reel. This triggers a nudge effect that pushes any partially visible symbols on the TopHit reel into view.
Big Game Fishing Bonus Round
Landing 3 or more scatter symbols anywhere on the reels, including the TopHit reel, triggers the bonus round. You start with a minimum of 8 free spins, and you can gamble for additional spins before the round begins. You can also earn extra when additional scatter symbols land or hitting special milestones on the TopHit reel, during the bonus round.
During free spins, any high-paying symbol that lands fully on TopHit reel, will continue to trigger its wild transformation and for the remainder of the bonus round. Note that win multipliers can stack.
If the Fisherman symbol lands on the TopHit reel during free spins, it collects fish cash values. The difference in the bonus round is that every time a fisherman symbol lands, a win multiplier increases by 1. This multiplier is applied every time a fish collection occurs.
Bonus Buy Feature: The game offers a Bonus Buy option for 70x your bet if available in your region. This grants you a random number of free spins (8 or more), with all the bonus features intact.
Big Game Fishing Christmas Catch
Big Game Fishing Christmas Catch is Reflex Gaming’s holiday makeover. You get the same core cash-fish gameplay as the main Big Game Fishing titles. But here it is wrapped in snow, stockings, and a Santa fisherman. The setup is simpler than TopHit, using a classic 5×3 layout with 10 paylines, high volatility, and a max win of 5,000x. Cash Fish is still the main feature and range from small 1x catches all the way up to the Golden Pike worth 5,000x.
How It Compares to TopHit
Where TopHit focuses on transforming symbols, nudges, and wild stacks on its top reel, Christmas Catch goes back to basics. There is no TopHit reel, just Fishermen dropping in to collect visible fish with multipliers up to 10x in free spins. The free spins trail upgrades fish values as you progress, creating more of a step-by-step gameplay instead of wild chains. A higher RTP of 96% (though some demos still show 94%), which is at least an improvement on TopHit’s 94%.
Max Play Mode
Max Play Mode is the biggest change. There are no regular symbols and leaves only Fish, Fishermen, and Bonus symbols on the reels. This creates far more frequent collections and a more volatile experience overall.
Conclusion
Big Game Fishing Christmas Catch does not change the core gameplay of the series. But it has a somewhat cleaner and more traditional fishing setup. So if you prefer straightforward cash-collect gameplay instead of the busier TopHit mechanics. Then this winter edition delivers a calmer experience. The Max Play Mode add a bit of bite to keep things interesting.
Big Game Fishing TopHit FAQ
The TopHit reel sits above the main 5×3 grid. When a high-paying symbol lands fully on the TopHit reel, it transforms all matching symbols on the main reels into wilds. If more than one of the same symbol lands, the wilds come with multipliers of up to x5.
The game’s RTP is 94%, which is slightly below the industry average.
Yes, the game offers a Bonus Buy option. For 70x your bet, you can instantly trigger the free spins round with 8 or more spins, if available in your region.
You can trigger the free spins round by landing 3 or more scatter symbols anywhere on the reels, including the TopHit reel. The more scatters you land, the more free spins you get.
The maximum win in Big Game Fishing TopHit is 5,000x your bet. Most likely this can be achieved in the free spins with stacked multipliers.
Conclusion
Overall, we think that Reflex Gaming has done well to incorporate familiar elements like fish collection and transforming wilds. You might be familiar with this combo from another fishing slot, Unusual Catch. These features can lead to some nice payouts, especially in the free spins round.
Compared to other slots like Fishin’ Frenzy or Big Bass Bonanza, Big Game Fishing TopHit has a comparable max win of 5,000x. But the lower RTP of 94% might turn some players off. However, its combination of wilds, multipliers, and nudge features keeps the gameplay fun.
