Crab Trap operates on a 6×4 grid, which is different from the standard 5×3 grids. When it comes to betting, you’ve got a wide range available, starting from as low as £0.10 and going up to £400. RTP stands at 96.07%, which is fairly average in the world of online slots. However, the maximum win is capped at 1,191 times your bet, which might not be as lucrative as some other high-volatility slots out there. For example, Fishin Frenzy has a max win of 5,000x and Fishin Bigger Pots of Gold has a max win of 7,500x.
As for bonus features, Crab Trap offers Re-spins and Free Spins. Moreover, there are crab trap features that can pay big if crab symbols land inside them. This mechanism reminds us of Kraken’s Sky Bounty. There’s also a Feature Buy Option, costing 50 times your bet, for those who prefer to cut to the chase and have the feature available to them.
How to Play Crab Trap Free Demo Slot
How to Play Crab Trap Quick Guide
You can play Crab Trap on all modern platforms. So, whether you’re on desktop or prefer to play on mobile, you’re covered. Here’s a quick guide on how to play Crab Trap:
- Start by Setting Your Bet: You can place bets from £0.10 – £400.
- Spin the Reels: Once your bet is set, hit the spin button to get the reels moving.
- Look for Boat Symbols: Boat symbols add trap frames to the reels and can trigger respins. These are your keys to bigger wins.
- Scatter Pays: Wins are calculated based on a “Scatter Pays” system, so you don’t have to worry about pay lines.
Winning Combinations & Payouts
In Crab Trap, the symbols are divided into three categories: low, medium, and high-paying symbols. Low-paying symbols are card ranks (J, Q, K and A). Medium-paying symbols include starfish and buckets of water. High-paying symbols are a fishing floats and a boots.
When it comes to payouts, a cluster of at least 7 low-paying symbols will pay you between 1x – 8x. Medium symbol payouts offer payouts between 1x – 8x too. But you only need at least six matching symbols for a win. High paying symbols pay out between 0.4x – 10x. But once again you only need 5 matching symbols for a win.
There are no base game features like multipliers or expanding reels. What you should focus on are the boat symbols. Boat symbols can spice up your base game and potentially lead to bigger wins.
Crab Trap Special Symbols
Crab Trap features three special symbols that significantly impact gameplay: Blue Boats, Red Boats and Scatter symbols.
Blue Boat Symbol
This symbol appears on all reels in both the base game and bonus round. Each Blue Boat adds a trap frame to its own position and 1 to 5 trap frames on random positions that don’t already have traps. These traps are essential for triggering the re-spin feature.
Red Boat Symbol
This symbol appears on reel 4 in the base game and on reel 3 during free spins. It triggers a Re-spin when there are at least 5 trap frames on the reels. Only crab symbol wins count during Re-spins.
Scatter Symbol
Landing 3, 4, 5, or 6 scatter symbols in the main game awards 5, 7, 10 or 15 free spins, respectively. During the free spins round, collecting 3 scatter symbols awards you an additional free spin.
Crab Trap Bonus Game
When you land at least three scatter symbols you enter the free spins bonus round. If you and 3, 4, 5, or 6+ scatter symbols, then you will receive 5, 7, 10 or 15 free spins, respectively.
When your free spins start, keep an eye out for additional scatter symbols. Collecting three of them will grant you an extra free spin. Moreover, you will want to land boat symbols early to lock in trap frames on the reels. When crab symbols land on the reels inside one of the trap frames, their cash values are locked in and a respin occurs. At the end of the respin round all winnings are added to your total.
Besides generating cluster wins and collecting some crab symbol cash, there’s not much going on in this slot game. Compared to other fishing slots or crab slots in the genre, Crab Trap is a really poor attempt to jump on the band wagon. We really expected more from a well respected game provider.

Conclusion
Crab Trap by NetEnt is a poor attempt at a crab slot. It almost looks like Evolution management told the studio to quickly come up with a slot to compete against other game providers that released similar games. Not only is the max win really low, but the whole game lacks bonus features that make the game worth playing. Reef raider is a much better crab slot option. However, every pot has a lid. So, if you want to give it a try and find out for yourself, then feel free to hit up one of our top casinos and play Crab Trap.
