Fishing and underwater-themed slots have always been a hit, but Dorks of the Deep by Hacksaw Gaming takes a different approach. Instead of chasing big bass or marlin, you’ll encounter a quirky cast of deep-sea dwellers. These, include an Octopus, a Mermaid and Neptune. What we see is an oddball take on the Little Mermaid by Disney. It’s a fun, lighthearted design, that uses similar mechanics from Dork Unit. Hence, the word “Dork” appears in both game titles.
This slot comes with some serious winning potential, up to 10,000x your bet. With Expanding Wild Reels, three different free spins features, and big multiplier boosts, you’re in for a wild ride. Give it a test run in our demo game below, and carry on reading our Dorks of the Deep review for full game specs.

Winning Combinations & Payouts
In Dorks of the Deep there are 10 common symbols. You have 5 low paying and 5 high paying symbols. in order to generate wins, you need to land at least 3 matching adjacent symbols on a pay line, from left to right. Wild symbols can help form winning combos too.
High-Paying Symbols: 5 sea creatures make up the high paying symbols (Fish, Sharks, Turtles, Mermaids, Neptunes). Payouts range from 2x – 10x.
Low-Paying Symbols: Card symbols are our usual low value symbols (10, J, Q, K and A). Payouts range from 0.2x – 0.8x.
Special Symbols
Moreover, there are also 3 special symbols in Dorks of the Deep slot. These include: treasure chests, scatters and wilds.
Treasure Chest Symbol
Chests act as wild symbols too. When. a chest lands it expands into a full Wild Reel, if it’s part of a win. These expanding wilds come with multipliers, ranging from 2x – 200x. In free spins, wild reels can become sticky and stay on the grid for multiple spins.
Scatter Symbol
FS scatter symbols trigger the free spins bonuses. Depending on how many you land, you’ll enter a different bonus round. 3, 4 or 5 scatters triggers Deep Blue Bonus, Down Under Bonus or Hidden Treasure Bonus, respectively. Scatters also award extra spins in the bonus rounds.
Wild Symbol
Standard wild symbols substitute for all common paying symbols. If you fill up a pay line with 5 wilds, then you receive a 10x payout. Unlike wild reels, the regular wilds do not come with win multipliers.
Dorks of the Deep Bonus Game
Dorks of the Deep comes with three different bonus rounds. Each bonus round starts off with 10 free spins and offers unique mechanics. The main bonus features are Expanding Wild Reels, which not only cover entire reels but also come with win multipliers, that can be sticky for a few spins. Here’s how each bonus round works.
Deep Blue Bonus Game
Triggered by landing 3 scatter symbols, you get 10 free spins to start with. Every Treasure Chest symbol expands into a Wild Reel, even if it’s not part of a winning combination. Each Wild Reel can have between 0 – 3 hearts above the reels, and these are lives. So, if you have hearts remaining, then the Wild Reel will be sticky until all lives run out. Moreover, depending on the sea creature in the wild reel, you’ll receive a win multiplier of 2x – 200x. If at least one Wild Reel has lives left on the last free spin, then a Last Chance feature activates, awarding re-spins until all wild reels disappear. Landing 2 or 3 scatter symbols during the round, awards 2 or 4 extra spins.
Bonus feature cost is 100x.
Down Under Bonus Game
Trigger by landing 4 scatter symbols, you get 10 free spins with guaranteed bigger multipliers. This feature plays like the Deep Blue Bonus, but with one major difference. Once a Wild Reel gets a character multiplier (Octopus, Mermaid or Neptune), it can never drop to a lower tier in future spins. This means multipliers stay high throughout the bonus.
Bonus feature cost is 200x.
Hidden Treasure Bonus Game
Triggered with 5 scatter symbols, you get 10 free spins with two permanent Wild Reels. So, these Wild Reels stay for the entire bonus round, as do the win multipliers. Therefore, if you land 5 scatters, you’re most likely to have a very big payout at the end of the bonus round. You may even hit the 10,000x max win!
Dorks of the Deep FAQ
Dorks of the deep has a top RTP of 96.2%. But lower RTP versions can be found at various casinos.
The maximum win is 10,000x. Your best chance of reaching the max win is in the Hidden Treasure Chest bonus round.
You can trigger one of three free spins bonus rounds, by landing 3 -5 scatters symbols in the base game.
Conclusion
Hacksaw Gaming has delivered another visually fun and feature-rich slot with Dorks of the Deep. If you already play their games, then the persistent expanding wild reel multipliers will be familiar from Dork Unit. So, you could say it’s a fishing slot version of the game with some extra features. Three different bonus rounds offer a nice variety of bonus round action. If you live outside the UK, then you can even purchase different bonus rounds. However, Hidden Treasure can not be purchased. So, you will have to land it naturally for that chance of hitting a 10,000x max win. If you enjoy slots with big multipliers and big win potential, then Dorks of the Deep is worth a spin.
