Every time a big sporting event takes place, game providers tend to jump on the bandwagon and create a sport themed clone of their popular games. With the FIFA World Cup taking place, Blueprint Gaming have taken their prized slot and have given it a football twist. Fishin’ Frenzy The Big Match offers a classic fishing slot with some football elements to it. We have seen similar games from Pragmatic in recent times, that were centered around horse racing, boxing and football.
The football theme is mostly a visual element of the game, but there are a few new ideas in the mechanics. The game includes a football-net feature in the base game, a Can of Worms symbol in Free Games, The Big Match upgrade mechanic, and Power Play mode. So, while this is not a massive reinvention of Fishin’ Frenzy, there is at least a bit more going on than a plain reskin. Find out more by reading our full review below.

How To Play Fishin’ Frenzy The Big Match Demo
The game plays like a normal 10 pay line slot. You need matching symbols to land from left to right, starting on the first reel. Your main goal is to watch for fish symbols and the football net above which collects them. Here is a quick guide to getting started.
- Set Your Bet & Spin: Choose a stake between £0.10 and £100. Spin the reels and look for matching symbols on the 10 paylines.
- Watch the Fish Symbols: Fish symbols carry cash values and these can be reeled in by fishermen during bonus features.
- Fill the Football Net: Any fish symbols that land in the base game or during Power Play mode, can add footballs to the net above the reels. As the net fills up, it can randomly trigger a feature where you pick one of three items for prizes or free spins.
- Trigger Free Games: Land 3, 4 or 5 scatters tol trigger 10, 15 or 20 free spins, respectively.
- Try Power Play: Power Play costs 5x your bet amount and changes the reels to a slot grid with only special symbols on it.
Now that you have a short understanding of how the slot works, play our free Fishin Frenzy The Big Match demo below. You can learn how to play the slot for free without losing real money in the process.
Winning Combos & Payouts
If we’re being brutally honest, Blueprint designers were incredibly lazy with this reskin. Besides dressing Frankie in a referee shirt, other iconic Fishin Frenzy pay symbols have just had a small scarf of football added to them. They could’ve been more creative with their designs, which you can see for yourself in the pay table below.
- Low Value Symbols: These are 10, J, Q, K, and A. Five matching symbols pay between 5x and max 10x your bet.
- High Value Symbols: The higher-paying symbols are fish, lure boxes, life buoys, fishing rods, and pelicans. Five matching of these pay between 20x and 200x your bet for the top ones.
The fish symbols, with cash values, are the most important. These cash values can be collected by the Fisherman Wild during Free Games and Power Play. This is still the main Fishin’ Frenzy mechanic and the main attraction of the Fishin Frenzy slot series.
Special Symbols
You get well known classic special symbols. And it still works because it is easy to understand. If fish land and the fisherman lands too, then he collects the cash values.
Fisherman Wild
Frankie is the key symbol in the game. He appears during free spins and Power Play. He can substitute for regular symbols and collects cash values from all visible fish symbols.
Fish Money Symbols
Cash symbols carry cash values up to 50x. When fishermen are active, they reel in fish symbols on screen which turn into instant wins. Fish symbols also contribute to the football net feature.
Bonus Scatter
Scatter symbols come in the form of a fishing boat. When you land 3, 4 or 5 scatters on one spin, you receive 10, 15 or 20 Free Spins.
Can of Worms Symbol
This symbol is active during free spins. They act as fishing symbols too. So can contribute to a pay line win. Moreover, they are collectors. So, when a fisherman lands and collects fish, the can of worms symbol collects all fish symbols first too.
Fishin’ Frenzy The Big Match Features
The base game is simple, but there are a few bonus features which make this football version a bit more interesting. Some can be triggered in the base game, whereas most of the action happens in the bonus round. Moreover, you can choose to play in Power Play mode which costs 5x your bet amount.
Power Play
When opting for this game mode, you’re charged 5 times your bet amount per spin. However, all common pay symbols are removed, leaving only special symbols active. Therefore, your chances of landing fish symbols and fisherman on the reels are much higher. So, your chances for bigger wins are a lot better. Hence, why each spins costs more in this mode.
Football Net
When fish symbols land in the base game, they can add footballs to the a big fishing net above the reels. Slowly, the net starts to fill up with balls. On any spin, the net can randomly trigger and you need to pick on of three fish on screen. Possible rewards include:
- 10, 15 or 20 Free Games – triggers the bonus round
- Collect – all fish on screen are collected and their cash values are added to your balance.
- Cash Streak – fish symbols are locked in place and re-spins occur to land more fish before all being collected.
- Extra Fish – adds extra fish symbols to the reels to help complete pay line wins.
- Fisherman Add – during Power Play mode, if the net triggers you can pick this option and it will add at least one fisherman symbol on the reels to guarantee a collection.
Free Games
Free Games are what got everyone hooked on the Fishin Frenzy slot series in the first place. So, it’s the pinnacle of the slot and where most of the bigger wins happen. To get to the bonus round you either have to land scatter symbols in the base game or you can trigger a bonus with the net feature. Your initial amount of free spins depends on the number of scatters landed:
3 Scatters – 10 Free Games
4 Scatters – 15 Free Games
5 Scatters – 20 Free Games
The Big Match
The Big Match is the main upgrade mechanic in the bonus round. Every time you collect 4 fisherman symbols you get a fish upgrade to the next highest value and you get 5 extra free spins. You can upgrade fish all the way up to a 50x value. So, it’s the exact same mechanism that first appeared in The Big Catch slot.
Conclusion
Fishin’ Frenzy The Big Match is a football-themed version of a slot most UK players already know and love. It keeps the familiar fish collection mechanic, adds a stadium backdrop, and throws in a few extra features. The game still feels very familiar, and that is fine if you enjoy simple Fishin’ Frenzy-style slots. But it is less exciting if you were hoping for something new and looking for big max win potential.
However, if you are a fan of this fishing slots series, then you wont be disappointed. But this is probably one of the weaker games in the series.
