Hot Tuna, by Pragmatic, is a high-volatility fishing slot that blends classic Big Bass mechanics with an East Asian twist. Tunas are considered a delicacy in Asia and are one of the most expensive fish. This time, we are not chasing bass but instead giant lightning-fast tuna that can earn up to 2,500x your bet.
The action is all about the well-dressed fisherman that is standing in his small boat waiting for the big fish to bite. While the base game feels oddly familiar, a Tuna Meter has been added together with Hot Tuna multipliers that can reach up to 10x. If you like Big Bass Bonanza-style slots but want something slightly different, then this is a slot for you. So, let’s take a closer look.

How To Play Hot Tuna Demo Free
Hot Tuna is easy to play and will most likely feel instantly familiar to fishing slot fans. The game uses a classic 5-reel and 3-row layout with 10 fixed pay lines. And it pays from left to right. Here’s a quick guide how to play the Hot Tuna demo slot for free or real money.
- Set Your Bet – Start by choosing your stake. It can be anything between £0.05 and £240.
- Activate Ante Bet (Optional) – Double your bet to improve your chances of triggering free spins.
- Spin the Reels – Hit spin and look for matching symbols across the pay lines.
- Trigger Free Spins – Land 3 or more scatter symbols anywhere on the reels.
You can also buy your way into the bonus for 100x. Bt this option is only available in some regions (not UK). When used you instantly enter Free Spins by using the 100x Feature Buy option.
Winning Combinations & Payouts
You get a payout for 3, 4, or 5 matching symbols on a pay line. The base game payouts are fairly modest, with the real potential locked behind the free spins feature. And if you complete a full line with a 10x multiplier, then you’re really in business.
- Low Value Symbols: 10, J, Q, K, A card symbols. Payouts range from 0.4x – 10x.
- High Value Symbols: Seahorse, Fishing Box, Sushi, Octopus Bait. Payouts range from 2x and 200x.
- Tuna Fish Symbols: Appear in free spins with cash values that range from 2x up to 2,500x. Fish symbols can also form pay lines wins from 1x – 20x.
Special Symbols
Hot Tuna keeps things simple with a few special symbols: Fisheemen, Hot Tuna Multipliers and Scatters.
Fisherman Wild
Appears only during Free Spins. The Fisherman substitutes for regular symbols and collects the values of all Money Symbols on the reels. Every time he appears, he also awards +1 extra Free Spin.
Scatter Symbol
The Scatter is a blue fish symbol and trigger the bonus round. Land 3 Scatters for 10 Free Spins, 4 Scatters give you 15 Free Spins and 5 Scatters 20 Free Spins.
Hot Tuna Symbol
A special symbol that appears during Free Spins after certain conditions are met. Each Hot Tuna symbol adds a 10x multiplier to collected Money Symbols. Multiple Hot Tuna symbols stack their multiplier values.
Ante Bet
The Ante Bet costs 100% extra on top of your base stake. When active, it increases the chances of triggering Free Spins and runs at the full 96.53% RTP.
Bonus Buy Feature
It includes a simple Feature Buy option. Pay 100x bet to instantly activates the Free Spins bonus at 96.53% RTP
Hot Tuna Free Spins & Features
The free spins bonus is triggered by landing 3 or more scatter symbols in the base game. During free spins the fisherman symbols collect cash values from fish symbols. Moreover, they each grant 1 extra free spin. All fish symbols that land without a fisherman are stored in the Tuna Meter.
In the Tuna Meter there are 7 levels. Each level requires 6 fish symbols to advance to the next level. If you manage to fill all 7 levels, then you unlock 10 extra spins.
Conclusion
This slot delivers a polished fishing slot experience with clean and bold visuals, with an East Asian theme. Moreover, this slot sticks to a similar Big Bass formula, but the Tuna Meter and Hot Tuna symbol add some freshness to it.
That said, the bonus can feel a bit lackluster when the Tuna Meter is left unfinished. Still, for fishing slots fans, it’s always nice to try a new fishing themed game. And Hot Tuna does offer something fresh. Our only disappointment from this game is the weak 2,500x max win. For a high volatility game, it’s just too low.
