Le Fisherman by Hacksaw Gaming is a low-volatility fishing slot that takes us back outdoors with the raccoon, Smokey Le Bandit. This time the troublemaker has swapped city crime for countryside calm, with rod in paw, boots on feet, and a look to him telling us he is not all that happy about early mornings on the water.
This 6×5 cluster pays slot blends Hacksaw’s Golden Squares mechanic with fishing-themed twists. You will find Rainbow symbols, progressive free spins, and even Smokey in mermaid form, yes you read that right. With a max win potential of 15,000x your stake and not one but three bonus games.
Overall, Le Fisherman might be one of the most light-hearted but also most feature-packed of the Le Bandit series. So let us see what treasures Smokey reels in Le Fisherman.

Le Fisherman uses a 6×5 grid, with wins formed by five or more matching symbols connected horizontally or vertically. Winning clusters disappear and leave Golden Squares behind, ready for a Rainbow activation. Hacksaw Gaming combines this setup with coins, clovers and collecting buckets. Meanwhile, three free spins modes add different upgrades to the action. There is plenty to follow beyond simply landing a winning cluster.
How To Play Le Fisherman Demo Free
Start with the demo below to learn how Golden Squares, rainbows and buckets work together. You can also explore our free demo slots to compare other games. Here is how to get started with Le Fisherman:
- Set Your Stake – Choose your bet between £0.10 and £50.
- Spin the Reels – Hit spin and look for clusters of 5 or more matching symbols.
- Trigger Golden Squares – Wins mark their positions as Golden Squares, which can give special symbols when triggered.
- Activate Rainbow Symbols – These trigger the golden squares and add prize symbols and multipliers.
- Land 3 to 5 Scatters – This triggers one of the three Free Spins rounds.
The cascading reel mechanic keeps the action going with symbols dropping in for potential chain reactions and big wins.
Winning Combinations & Payouts
Le Fisherman uses a cluster pays system rather than fixed paylines. When 5 or more of the same symbols touch horizontally or vertically you have a win. These winning clusters are then cleared from the grid via the Super Cascades feature and make room for new symbols and potentially long chains of wins on the same spin.
- Low Value Symbols: 10 to A card ranks pay 0.1x to 10x for clusters of 5 to 12+.
- High Value Symbols: Fishing Hats, Floats, Hooks, Anchors, and Fish. These pay from 0.3x to 100x for large clusters of fish.
Special Symbols
Le Fisherman has special symbols that power up the grid and turn regular wins into chain reactions with coins, multipliers, and buckets with the help of the Golden Squares system.
Golden Squares
Whenever you land a winning cluster, the positions behind the winning symbols are marked as Golden Squares. These stay in place and can later be activated by Rainbow symbols. When activated, Golden Squares reveal one of several special prizes or feature icons.
Rainbow Symbol
The Rainbow Symbol is the key activator for the Golden Squares. When it lands, it triggers all highlighted squares to reveal their symbols.
Epic Rainbow Symbol
The Epic Rainbow Symbol activates every position on the grid, not just Golden Squares. This can transform the entire grid into coins, clovers, and buckets for potential massive collection chains.
Wild Symbol
This works as you would expect and substitute for all regular symbols. It does not substitute for any other special symbol.
FS Scatter
Land at-least 3 of these to trigger the bonus round. 3 trigger On Thin Ice, 4 trigger Slippery When Wet and 5 of them triggers the Smokey Under Water Hidden Epic Bonus.
Potential Golden Squares Revealed Symbols
- Bronze, Silver, Gold & Diamond Coins – Cash prizes ranging from 0.2x to 500x your bet.
- Green Clover – Multiplies all adjacent coins, buckets, or global buckets by x2 to x20.
- Gold Clover – Multiplies all coins and buckets across the grid by x2 to x20.
- Buckets – Collect the total value of all coins and other buckets within a 3×3 area. It then reveal new special symbols for more wins.
- Global Buckets – Similar to regular Buckets but collect all coins and buckets across the grid.
Le Fisherman Free Spins & Features
There are three types of bonus rounds. Each of these has slightly different Golden Squares and Rainbow mechanics.
On Thin Ice Bonus Game
Triggered by landing 3 Free Spin Scatters, this round awards 10 Free Spins. Golden Squares become progressive and they remain on the grid until activated by a Rainbow or Epic Rainbow. You have a Big Catch Bar that appears to the side of the grid. Each landed FS symbol increases the bar by one level. For every 5 FS symbols the Big Catch Bar upgrades.
- Level 1: Rainbow transforms into a Green Clover.
- Level 2: Rainbow becomes a Global Bucket.
- Level 3: Rainbow upgrades into a Gold Clover.
- Level 4: Guarantees a Rainbow or Epic Rainbow every spin, and each activation becomes a Gold Clover.
Each new level on the bar also give you +5 extra spins. Thus extending your bonus fishing expedition and adds more Golden Squares to the grid.
Slippery When Wet Bonus Game
Landing 4 FS scatter symbols triggers Slippery When Wet with 10 free spins. Golden Squares stay on the grid throughout the bonus, even after a Rainbow activates them. Coin values start at a minimum of 1x your bet. An Epic Rainbow activates the full grid, but only the Golden Squares already present before activation remain afterwards.
Smokey Under Water Hidden Epic Bonus
This is the most rare of the three. For this one to trigger you will need to land 5 Free Spin Scatters in the base game. When triggered you get 10 Free Spins and start at Level 4 of the Big Catch Bar, which is the the maximum tier, thus guaranteeing a Rainbow or Epic Rainbow every single spin. Note that no additional FS symbols can land in this bonus mode as you have already the bar at max.
Feature Buy Options
If you do not want to wait for the bonuses Le Fisherman offers several Feature Buys. Note that Bonus buys are not available in all regions, including the UK.
- Bonus Hunt FeatureSpins – Cost 3x your bet and give 5x higher chance of triggering a bonus.
- Rainbow Trout FeatureSpins – For 50x your bet this guarantees a win + a Rainbow or Epic Rainbow.
- Rainbow Epic Drop – Cost 500x and guarantees an Epic Rainbow activation.
- On Thin Ice Bonus – 60x and trigger Thin Ice Bonus.
- Slippery When Wet Bonus – For 250x you can trigger the Slippery When Wet bonus.
Conclusion
Le Fisherman brings something different to our collection of fishing slots. Smokey’s grumpy fishing trip and occasional mermaid appearance give it plenty of character, while the interacting features add more to follow. The Golden Squares and Rainbow mechanics can create screens full of coins and multipliers for some sweet wins.
The Big Catch Bar adds a layer of progression which makes it feel more worthwhile when hitting it. The only thing that might make it less interesting for some players is the low volatility. However it does have a quite high max win at 15,000x that makes it worthwhile.
