Octo Attack is from the same slot creator that gave us Beast Below, namely Hacksaw Gaming. Known for making stylish slots, Octo Attack isn’t an exception. It feels similar in the soundtrack to Beast Below in that it gives off “looming danger” vibes but has a different artistic vision. Moreover, it’s more reminiscent of an edgy dark comic. Let us join up with Otto the Octopus in a back alley filled with trash, dumpsters and waste and see if indeed the tentacle is the charm to that 10,000x payout.

How To Play Octo Attack Slot Quick Guide
- Set Your Bet: From the top, begin by selecting your bet amount before you start spinning the reels. You can start as low as £0.10 to a maximum of £100 per spin. Once you’ve set your bet, click the spin button to start the game.
- Spin the Reels: Octo Attack is played on a 5×5 grid where winning combinations are formed by landing clusters of five or more matching symbols that connect vertically or horizontally. The symbols will drop into place, and any winning clusters will be highlighted and removed, allowing new symbols to cascade into the empty spaces, for potentially more wins.
- Special Features: Tenta-Grab feature activates when the Eye of Otto symbol lands and selects a random symbol which turns all ink-stained positions into that symbol. More on Eighth Arm Is The Charm and Give Me Eight further down in the review.
- Free Spins: Free spins are triggered by landing three or more scatter symbols. The number of triggering symbols determines the number of free spins you get going into the bonus round. During free spins, the ink stains remain on the grid boosting your chances of activating the Tenta-Grab feature repeatedly.
Winning Combinations & Payouts
There are a total of 10 regular symbols in the game: 5 low-paying symbols and 5 high-paying symbols. And it’s easy to tell them apart due to being in colour or not. the colourful symbols are worth more than gray coloured.
The game uses a cluster pay system, where winning combinations are formed by landing five or more of the same symbol clusters. When a winning combo occurs, all winning symbols cascade to reveal new symbols. Thus, you can create multiple wins on one spin.
- Low-Paying Symbols: All the black and grey symbols: Hook, Bolt, Speech Bubble, Box, and Heart. Payouts range from 0.1x – 100x.
- High-Paying Symbols: All the coloured symbols: Fish, Beverage, Mushroom, Ice Cream and Sharks. Payouts range from 0.3x – 500x.
Special Symbols
There are five special symbols in the game too: Wilds, Wild multiplier, Eye of Otto, Epic and regular Free Spins symbols.
Wild Symbols
The Wild symbols substitute for any regular symbols to help form winning clusters. Wilds can have multipliers ranging from 1x to 10x. When these wild multipliers are part of a winning cluster, they multiply the cluster’s payout by the respective multiplier value.
Eye of Otto
Otto triggers the Tenta-Grab feature if there are Ink Stains present. This feature selects a random symbol on the grid and replaces all ink-stained positions with the chosen symbol. The Eye of Otto can transform Ink Stained positions into low-paying symbols, high-paying symbols, Free Spin symbols, wilds, or wild multipliers.
FS and Epic FS Symbol
Landing at least three regular FS symbols, triggers the Eighth Arm Is The Charm feature, giving a number of free spins. Landing at least three Epic FS symbols, triggers the Give Me Eight feature, with a higher number of free spins.
Base Game Features
You don’t have to get into the bonus round to trigger features in Octo Attack. Hacksaw states that all game modes can get you to the max win of 10,000x, which is cool. These are the features in the base game that can help with that.
Ink Stains
Whenever a winning cluster forms, the symbols involved in the win are removed from the grid, leaving behind Ink Stains in their positions. They are removed between base game spins, unless they are used by the Tenta-Grab mechanic.
Tenta-Grab Mechanic
The Tenta-Grab feature is triggered when the Eye of Otto symbol lands on the grid and there are Ink Stains on the reels. Tenta-Grab then selects one random symbol on the grid and replaces all Ink Stained grid positions with the symbol. So, they work like mystery symbols in other slot games. This can create large clusters and big payouts. Note that if a wild or a wild multiplier is grabbed, then all replaced symbols will change into wilds or wild multipliers.
Octo Attack Bonus Game
There are two main bonus rounds Eighth Arm Is The Charm and Give Me Eight. The bonus rounds in Octo Attack are the best chance for big payouts, especially the Give Me Eight Epic Free Spins. Note that you can re-trigger for extra spins when landing 3 FS scatters.
Eighth Arm Is The Charm
Eight Arm is the Charm is triggered by landing three or more regular Free Spin (FS) symbols on the reels. The number of FS symbols determines the number of starting free spins. For example, landing three FS symbols awards three free spins, four FS symbols awards four free spins, and so on.
During the Eighth Arm Is The Charm feature, the Ink Stains do not reset between spins, and remain on the grid. When the tentacle is triggered, then they will turn into a mystery symbol and be removed from the grid. This massively increases the potential for large clusters of matching symbols. Moreover, you can get 1 additional free spin when 3 FS symbols land during the bonus round.
Give Me Eight
Triggering the Give Me Eight bonus round occurs when landing three or more Epic Free Spin symbols (Epic FS). Similar to the regular FS symbols, the number of Epic FS symbols landed decides how many spins you start with. Give Me Eight boosts the Tenta-Grab feature to target only wild symbols, wild multipliers or FS symbols. Give Me Eight bonus round ends when all free spins have been played.
Bonus Buy Feature
Octo Attack offers several bonus buy options. You can either buy a feature or enhance your bet, like an ante bet does.
- BonusHunt FeatureSpins: Increases the chance of triggering a bonus round by 5x for a cost of 3x the bet.
- Tentacular FeatureSpins: Guarantees at least one win and one landed Eye of Otto symbol for 50x the bet.
- Eighth Arm Is The Charm: Trigger the feature for 100x the bet.
- Give Me Eight: Triggers the advanced bonus round for 300x the bet.

Conclusion
Octo Attack by Hacksaw Gaming has medium volatility and an RTP of 96.27%. So, the slot has a balance between risk and reward. A maximum win potential of 10,000x gives an opportunity for substantial payouts, and it can be achieved during the base game as well, which is very cool. You get two different bonus rounds, which look the same, but one has a higher value. Moreover, the game follows the dark themes that we’ve become accustomed too with Hacksaw Gaming. It may not be a genuine fishing slot, with fish collections, but since it features an Octopus grabbing symbols, it does somewhat fit the genre.
