Most fishing slots we cover are modern 5-reel games, packed with fish collections and a big free spins bonus round. Reel Em In Lake Lunker Edition by Light & Wonder goes in a very different direction. This one is much more of a classic 3-reel slot with a fishing skin over the top.
Instead of a busy video slot layout, you get a compact old-school setup with 27 pay lines, and the famous 3 different wild symbol combos. Moreover, there is a free spins bonus round and a fishing jackpot feature. But this is definitely more of a classic fruit machine than modern fish slot.
If you like classic-style slots and want something a bit different, then there is something here for you. But if you are after a modern Big Bass or Fishin’ Frenzy style game, then it’s a hard pass. For more info, carry on reading our Reel Em In Lake Lunker Edition slot review.

The most important thing to flag straight away for UK players is the 92.00% RTP. That is poor. There is no real way around that. So, while the game has some charm, the RTP is clearly below what we would normally like to see. Another unusual part is the max win wording by Light & Wonder. The in-game help does not show a normal max win potential, so we cant be certain. But it does list the max win as the Rainbow Trout jackpot. And that the wins in a single game are capped at £250,000.

Reel Em In Lake Lunker Edition is a Light & Wonder slot that can be found at online casinos that have their slots. You can also try the demo first, and for this particular game that is worth doing because it plays differently from most fish slots we usually cover.

How To Play Lake Lunker Edition Demo
This is a 27-payline slot. Win combinations must land on adjacent reels starting from the leftmost reel. Before each spin, the game say it chooses from multiple possible reel sets. What this means in practice is just landing the right symbols on the lines. The basic flow is simple enough:
- Set Your Bet & Spin – Pick your bet denomination, then one of the 5 bet levels.
- Line Wins – This is a payline slot, so normal symbol combinations matter.
- Lake Lunker scatters – In the base game, 1 or 2 scattered Lake Lunker symbols can award a random jackpot.
- Trigger Free Games – 3 scattered Lake Lunker symbols trigger the Free Games Bonus.
This is not a complicated slot to understand. It probably is more about if you actually enjoy the older style of gameplay.
Winning Combos & Payouts
The paytable is full of classic reel-slot symbols. You get blue 7s, green 7s, different BAR combinations. Then you have the Wild, Wild 2x, and Wild 3x symbols. The three Wild types are the strongest symbols in the game, Wild 3x is the top-paying symbol, then Wild 2x is next and lastly you have the standard Wild.
All three are also wilds for 7, BAR, double BAR, and triple BAR symbols. And Wild 3x and Wild 2x also apply their multipliers when they are part of a winning combination. The wild setup is probably the best part of the slot and gives it a bit more bite than a completely plain old-school reel game would have.
Special Symbols
Wild Symbol
There are three versions: Wild, Wild 2x, and Wild 3x. All of them substitute for the regular paying symbols. Wild 2x and Wild 3x also apply their multiplier values when they are part of a winning combination.
Fish Overlay Symbol
The fish symbol is an overlay in this game and has no effect on how symbol pays. But they are tied into triggering the jackpot and free games mechanics during the bonus round.
Lake Lunker Scatter
Landing 1 or 2 scattered Lake Lunker symbols can award a random jackpot
3 scattered Lake Lunker symbols trigger the Free Games Bonus
Random Jackpot Awards in the Base Game
In the base game, landing 1 or 2, no more no less, scattered Lake Lunker symbols can trigger a random jackpot. Potential jackpots are Rainbow Trout, Bass, Catfish, Panfish and lower fixed prize tiers. Payout fore these are visible above the reeels.
Reel Em In Lake Lunker Edition Free Spins
This is where the fishing side of the game properly shows up. Landing 3 scatters triggers free spins. At the start of the bonus, you get 7 free spins and an instant win of 2x. So, your bonus starts straight away with a win. In the bonus round you get free spins to collect wins and to try and catch fish for jackpot prizes.
Jackpot Resets During Free Games
During the free games feature, any combination of 3 scattered fish overlays, awards a random jackpot. It also resets the number of free games remaining, back to 7. That is the main bonus loop in this slot. You are basically trying to keep resetting the feature while picking off jackpot fish. There are a couple of important extra rules here:
- If a jackpot is awarded, then that corresponding fish is removed for the rest of the free games bonus.
- Rainbow Trout can only be awarded after all the other jackpots have been collected.
- At the end of the free games, all jackpots become available again.
That gives the feature a bit more structure. It is not just random fish prizes you get in other fishing slots. There is an actual order to how to catch the big jackpot fish.
Conclusion
Reel Em In Lake Lunker Edition is a strange little fishing slot by modern standards. It is much more of a classic reel machine than a modern fish game, and that is probably both its strength and its weakness.
On the plus side, it feels different. The wild setup is solid, the jackpot ladder is always visible and the free games feature is entertaining. There is some old-school charm here if you are looking for it. But the downside is the 92.00% RTP, which is poor and the base game is very basic.
If you enjoy retro-style slots and want a fishing game that does not look like every other one on the market, then give it a try. But if you want the stronger maths, cleaner value, and more features, then this is not for you.
